Every month the Point Blank team are responsible for a constant flow of new content here on PB+, via our YouTube channel and on our Soundcloud page. Blink and you might miss something, which is why we compile the very best of all our new content every month in our Monthly Round-Up. We’ve been to Ibiza and Barcelona over the past few weeks, covering key industry events, IMS and Sonar – while we’ve also published lots of great new tutorials and used our industry links to hook up some awesome competitions! So, in case you missed anything, here’s a selection of some highlights from June!

10% Off ALL Diploma Courses:

This month we introduced an amazing 10% discount to ALL of our Music Production Diploma courses for the entire month. 20 places were made available for this limited offer, which gave students the chance to save up to £1,400!

Point Blank at IMS and Sonar:

We had to brush up on our Spanish this past month as we set up shop at both IMS in Ibiza and Sonar in Barcelona. Both events are hugely popular and attract a who’s who of faces and names from within the electronic music community, from press agents through to artists and club owners, and everyone in between. We remixed IMS’ Anthem (by Nile Rodgers) and spent some time at Ableton’s artists meet and greet, where Push got a full workout from performers like Jamie Lidell. We also spent some time indulging in the party scenes at both events.

Point Blank’s Debut Google Hangout!

In our quest to continue to utilise all the very best that technology has to offer we recently embarked upon on our very first Google Hangout. The exciting new software offers users the chance to communicate and share ideas via a video call – with the opportunity to use multiple windows, great for accentuating the production process or helping those who don’t have the time to meet in person on a regular basis. Point Blank tutor Jonny Miller took part in this session which we’re sure you’ll agree, was a great success.

In Session With… Dinky & Matthew Styles:
The dynamic duo already took the time to speak to us about their working relationship last month and, while they were here, they also took part in a video session where Dinky and her partner, Matthew, were kind enough to give out some crucial knowledge and to tell us all about their live set up, among other things. You can watch Dinky and Matthew performing live in the video and, as you might expect, this was a very insightful session and Dinky’s album Dimension D is out now on Visionquest. We’re big supporters of the couple and we hope to do many more exciting projects with them in future. Make sure you pick it up, it’s pretty special.

Mack Sennett Studios:
A project we’ve been keeping under our hats for a while now was finally unveiled earlier this month. We’ve become affiliated with the legendary Mack Sennett Studios in LA – over the coming weeks you can expect to see several high-quality, exclusive video interviews with some of America’s best new talent. To give you an idea of how prestigious the studios are, not only were they used to film UK No.1 song Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke, Pharrell Williams and T.I., but their hall of fame includes names like Charlie Chaplin, Bing Crosby and Michael Jackson. Look out for some great footage coming from our US connection very soon…

Point Blank Kick Drum Designer:
Our resident plugin boffin, Daniel Herbert, created the excellent (and FREE) Kick Drum Designer plugin for Ableton 9 Live. It’s a Max For Live device, which we’ve been supporting for quite some time. The Kick Drum Designer is the fifth Max For Live plugin we’ve released and there will be more! All you have to do is go to this page and ‘like’ our Facebook page to get the download – or head over to our Free Plugins section on our website to grab all the rest! Watch this space for more Max For Live devices to aid your production process…

Student Success and Releases…
We pride ourselves on the fact that so many of our students go on to great things when they’ve finished studying here. It’s a great feeling to know that the knowledge we’ve passed on to those who study here has been a great foundation for them and that they’ve used their education to establish themselves as artists in their own right. Likewise our record label is also proving to be a success with some of our former students finding a home for their music with us. Our man MJ Fitz was responsible for a track called Rollin’, while D I Y O D hit us with Sunny Daze – both are great little tracks and deserving of a place on our label.
